Long run - 20 miles.
Wuhooo!!! I finished.
It was a hard run, we started out pulling too fast (LA marathon group were running 7, we the Pasadena group 20). The first 7 miles was on the crowed Venice Board walk and we were doing a lot of passing of different group; on average I was basically running my 10K race pace. I know I was going to be in trouble after we dropped of our LA friends.
I complained to the pace leader and asked him to slow down, good thing he did. Starting mile 16, I am feeling the fatigue cumulating from the fast start as well as a hard week of running. I did 10k race on Sunday, a 4 mile treadmill run on Tuesday, a 8 mile hill run on Thursday; and this one. I started to think that this was a bit too much. Rest day sounds GOOD right about now…
More than a few times, the nagative left brain messages came at me with a vengeance; I took a few extra walk breaks, ate my Cliff shot blocks, drinks lots and lots of water (thank God for water stations the Leggers setup); I was determined to pick the pace back up and get the milage over with. I’ve come too far to give up now, it’s NOT going to happen!
The last quarter mile, I felt sharp pain on the back of right my heel, I thought it was a rock that was caught between my shoe; as I looked down, it was a flap of skin broken off from a blister that is now rubbing raw against the inside of my shoes. Darn! That hurt!!!! Nothing I can do about it at the time, but to ignore it and get through my last quarter mile. Total running time: 3 hours 23 minutes and 47 seconds. What a day!
I am elated, proud, exhausted, sore and in pain all at the same time.:D
Until next week…
