Running with the Leggers back on my regular schedule.

We did Temescal Canyon route, it is about 5.5 miles of hills in the canyon, a one and half mile of downhill drops us at PCH by the beach and we took the bike path back for a total of 9-mile run.

It was a glorious run, the cool weather, the scenic route, the ocean and the wind.  I feel like I was flying.  So happy to be back on running.

My ankle felt a bit of irritation during the last two miles, I certainly couldn’t quit then.  Our pace leader got sick mid-way of the run, so I stepped up. Given that I became the default pacer since I have the Garmin Forerunner GPS watch, I had to keep the group on pace and call walk breaks every 8 minutes.

Overall, I had such a great time and I hope next week’s long run will be just as cool.

Below, my daughter insisted that she has to be part of my blog, so she pushed me aside and took over the computer to say hi to you readers. :)

hi :D -kacey! [her daughter] p.s. I’m way cooler 8D i can’t run at all!

Sounds like you are back on track. Be careful of hills, though. I’ve noticed that if anything is “iffy” a run in the hills will result in suffering the next day. I would continue to ice the ankle after long runs as a precaution.

I love to read your run reports. It’s fun to imagine running through the hills and down to the beach.

    Hi Databasediva,

Thanks!!! yeah… when in doubt - ice religiously! :)
I am lucky to live close to a little cornor of heaven on earth and have enough awareness to enjoy it.

I will take it easy for a couple of days, put in a couple short runs to prepare for the long run this weekend.

It’s funny that as much as I workout, my daughter is not very interested in fitness activies. Maybe I did too much of it, when she was little, I dragged her everywhere. She sat for hours at the gym playing video games waiting for me, she paints pictures at the Santa Monica staris when I would workout there twice a week. I think’s she’s sick of it, now she’s older, I couldn’t get her to go with me anymore… :(

Have patience. She is probably just establishing herself as an individual, and part of that can be rejecting things you identify with your parents. If she isn’t high energy, she might enjoy something like yoga, or ballet. Raising kids takes a lot more endurance than any distance I’ve tried to run. Each one needs something different, and figuring out what it is takes a lot of trial and error.

It’s good to be a grandma. It’s less work, and the kids think I’m much smarter now than they did when they were young :D

    Thanks. Patience…isn’t that the truth.
I think having kids is definetely a test of will and you are right about it being tougher than any distance we can run.
I’ve got long way to go since she’s only 14, going on 18. LOL.
